Due to the circumstances I just thought it best to give this edition over to the Queen, the only Monarch most of us have ever known and one so beloved by people, not just of this nation but throughout the world. Let’s join our prayers together for her family as they grieve the loss of a Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. Let us also pray for the repose of her soul as she continues her journey into God.
Many throughout the world are paying tribute to her including Pope Francis whose telegram to HM King Charles III spoke of the Queens steadfast faith:
I willingly join all who mourn her loss in praying for the late Queen’s eternal rest and in paying tribute to her life of unstinting service to the good of the nation and the Commonwealth, her example of devotion to duty, her steadfast witness of faith in Jesus Christ and her firm hope in his promises’.
Archbishop Nolan also gave his thanks:
“In her long reign Queen Elizabeth was a powerful witness to Christian faith and an extraordinary example of fidelity to duty. We mourn not just the death of our Queen but the death of a good woman. May she rest in peace.
Finally the President of the Bishops Council of Scotland Bishop Hugh Gilbert paid tribute to her long service saying; ‘ Her determination to remain active to the end of her long life, has been an example of Christian leadership, which demonstrated her great stoicism and commitment to duty and was undoubtedly a source of stability and continuity in times of great change’.
I am sure we have our own thoughts about her and what she meant to each one of us. Whilst we pray for her, and the consolation of her family let us also pray for His Majesty King Charles III as he takes up on this heavy mantel.
